FR (Retired) John Arthur Carey

CAREY, John Arthur, 83, of Cornwallis Park, Annapolis Co., died peacefully with family at his side on Monday, January 5, 2009, in Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Toronto on May 29, 1925, he was a former member of the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve and saw active service during the Second World War. He served as a professional fire fighter for many years with the Department of National Defence, and at retirement was fire chief at the former CFB Cornwallis. Actively involved in his community, John was also an avid golfer and bridge player, and spent many years sailing and curling. He is survivived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley; sister, Sister Anne Marie Carey, Toronto; daughters, Anne Marie (Joe) Greaves, Regina Sask. and Eileen Carey, Halifax; sons, Tom (Mona) Carey, Brandon, Man.; Pat (Tracey) Carey, Quispamsis, N.B. and Mike (Christine) Carey, Waterdown, Ont.; grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan Carey; Chris and Carey Greaves, Joanne (Kelly) Dewan; Anthony and Zachery Carey; Jacob and Marin Carey- Paradis; and Kathleen and Shawn Carey. John is predeceased by his sister, Sister Kathleen Carey. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Visitation will take place Friday 7-9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m. in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Digby, followed by a reception. Father Keith Billard officiating. Private interment.
