Harry Cummins died peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Harry was born in Chilliwack June
He is survived by daughters: Gail (Michael) McCain and Diane; granddaughters: Colleen and Heather; and sisters: May Cumming, Jeanne Bahnman, Evelyn (Rick) Dunne, Mryt
(Ralph) Pedersen and brother-in-law Larry LaMarche.
He will be fondly remembered by his many nephews and nieces who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his brother Herb; sister Eileen; infant son, James; and Muriel, the
mother of his children.
Harry was a WWII war veteran and served in the RCAF with the Fire Department for 20 years. Upon retirement, he then worked for 15 years as meter reader for Elk Creek
Harry was a life-long volunteer who believed in helping younger generations learn to love the sports that he enjoyed. He coached softball, soccer, and taught swimming,
bowling, and golf. Harry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a proud member at the Cultus Lake Golf Course and he loved the staff and
other members as much as he loved playing the game.
Harry's time on the links won him the gold medal in Golf at the BC Seniors' Games in 2007. When not outdoors, Harry could usually be found at the Legion dancing,
volunteering, or telling highly unlikely stories. He was a committed Legion member for 47 years and he volunteered in numerous capacities including running the poppy
fund. Branch 4 (Chilliwack) Legion honoured him with the 2005 Legionnaire of the Year award.
Harry was a life-long learner and avid reader who was self educated. He lived his years to the fullest, never letting a chance to try, or learn something new pass him
Harry will be missed by family, friends, and all those who he swore he knew through some obscure connection.
A service will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 2:00 pm.
Thanks to the staff at Glenwood Care Centre in Agassiz for all their help during Harry's last days.
