Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal - On February 18, 2000, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada presented the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal to eight Firefighters from CFB Halifax. "She thanked us for our service to the country and our community. It was nice to be recognized," said Leonard Bodis (in photo), who has twenty one years of service at DND.

The award recognizes Firefighters with at least twenty years of service who have "served in an exemplary manner, exhibiting good conduct, industry and efficiency." The eight men who received the award, Kevin Bates, Leonard Bodis, Robert Dunn, David Gorton, Donald Howard and Murray Watson, have accumulated a total of 191 firefighting years between them.
