Editor Note: These
notes were added by Phil Barrett. "The young lady sitting beside
Bill Walker in front row is ?? Patenaude. She was a beauty - well the
three of them were in their own unique way. Ms Patenaude was in training
as a
vocalist and joined the CBC in the seventies - gave concerts all over
Canada but haven't heard of her for several years . I think her first
name was Jean. Her father was a S/L Admin Officer with Construction
Engineering Branch on Vic Island in the late 50s and 60s. The gal in the
middle was a French Cdn lass who barely spoke English and understood
less. She , of course was supposed to be bi-lingual. I used to prepare
the assesments for signature by Bill McCallum (in the late 50s) and on
hers I remarked on her poor progress in learning the English language
and recommended she be given special training (there were some English
courses available). Bill signed it after discussing it with me and next
thing I knew I was on the mat with personnel. The other gal was very
buxom and drew many stares and ogles during coffee break in the canteen.
Nobody would give her a second look today but in those
days.........!!!"
