IRELAND, Robert Stanley Born September 26, 1945, passed away with calmness and dignity December 31, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Belleville and spent his early years in the Sudbury area. He join the Navy in 1963 and retired in 1983. In 1984 he started his business HSRS Rescue Survival. His work took him to many parts of Canada and the world. Each year his work took him to Ontario for his "Ontario Tour" where Bob and his partner, Paul Beattie trained Ministry Staff in underwater escape training. He enjoyed the time spent in Ontario visiting friends and relatives and golfing at many locations across Ontario. Bob was a kind gentle and caring man who was well respected by family, friends and colleagues. He enjoyed spending time around his pool with his granddaughters, Shay and McKenzie and hosting family barbecues. He enjoyed spending time at our Friends Pub with friends and his loyal canine friend "The Girl Dog Little Person with Hair". He was predeceased by his parents, Max and Nina (Blake) and brother, Lee. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; stepson, Marcel and grandson, Sean and granddaughters, Shay and McKenzie; great-granddaughter, Ellayh; siblings, Barbara (Merv) of Naughton; Ron (Laurel) of Naughton; Pat of Lively and Nancy of Naughton. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Murel (Dowdall), Diane (Mark), Sharon (Cecil), Cal (predeceased Russell); brothers-in-law, Harold (Sherri), Brian (Debbie), Percy (Wendy) and many nieces and nephews. At Bob's request there will be no funeral or visitation. A memorial service will be held January 8th at 2-5 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion Highway number 7, Dartmouth. The family would like to thank Dr. Banks for his care during Bob's illness.
