MARRIOTT, Bernard - Mr. Bernard Marriott, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Marriott of Medicine Hat, Alta., passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the age of 82 years. Bernard also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Penny (Ben) Lanz, Medicine Hat, Alta.; Shawn (Carolyn) Marriott, Shelburne; Bruce Marriott (Gail), Medicine Hat, Alta.; Brian (Barbara) Marriott, Truro; Seamus (Theresa) Marriott, Shanghai, China, and Maura Marriott, Portlaoise, Ireland; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Garfield (Jeanette) Marriott and Joe (Margie) Marriott; sisters, Evelyn (Fred) Jollota, Betty (Ken) Smith and Barbara Lohnes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernard was predeceased by his parents, Willis and Addie Marriott; brothers, Wilfred and Harold. Bernard was born on September 8, 1922, in Pictou, Pictou Co. He was raised in Halifax and after completing his schooling he joined the Royal Canadian Army. He served overseas with the Signal Corp. 2nd Canadian Agra Regiment until returning to Canada in 1946. He married Margaret O'Rourke in 1945 in London, England, and they renewed their vows in 1950. Upon his return to Canada, Bernard joined the Department of National Defense Fire Department where he was employed for 37 years, retiring on December 29, 1983. Bernard was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed his retirement, volunteering, doing carpentry and traveling, especially their trips to Ireland. Bernard especially enjoyed the company of family and friends and will be missed by those who knew and loved him. A family funeral service was held in Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, on Monday, May 23, with Pastor Loren Hosfield officiating. Interment followed in Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
